Listening East (2013)

Over the past six months I have been travelling through Eastern Europe, visiting Eastern Poland, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania and Georgia, with the aim to “domesticate” Eastern territories through collecting audio field recordings throughout these places; showing their diversity, but also integrating, mixing and combining the sounds from these territories together. In this project I am exploring the feelings of strangeness, unattractiveness, danger and insularity that has accompanied Eastern countries for the post-Cold War generation; why my generation would rather go West than East.

This project is supported by a scholarship from the Polish Ministry of Culture.
